MASSENA — The Disabled American Veterans Chapter 171 held their annual “Christmas in July” for all veterans in the St. Regis and Highland nursing homes.
The DAV distributes the gifts in July because the veterans are so overwhelmed with gifts in December.
DAV Chapter 171 Commander Fred Cockayne said “we strive to keep all of our donations local, not just with the nursing homes but with helping veterans in need. We have purchased roofing materials for some and needed medical equipment for others.”
A resent Forget-Me-Not drive raised over $1,100 which Commander Cockayne says will help cover this fiscal years donations which began July 1.
