AKWESASNE – Mohawk International Raceway track crews spent many hours this week on the racing surface. When it came race time the track was as smooth as glass and with the Empire Super Sprints in town, it sure made for another night of great racing action Friday.

The DIRTcar 358 Modifieds took center stage on Saratoga Eagles night. Mike Perrotte and Roy Delormier led the field to Austin Swamp's green flag with 4 time track champion Perrotte getting the early advantage.

It didn't take long for the first caution to be displayed as Perry Francis broke a front end on his machine on lap 3 sending him to the pits for the evening.

On the restart Perrotte continued his strong run at the head of the pack with Carey Terrance, Tim O'Brien, Chris Raabe and Clayton Benedict completing the top 5. Perrotte would hold the lead for the next 7 laps until defending track champion Carey Terrance grabbed the number 1 position with Perrotte relegated to 2nd, Raabe, O'Brien and Benedict continued to round out the fast 5.

Tim O'Brien then started to make his charge to challenge Terrance for the lead.

After getting by Raabe for 2nd on lap 17 he then raced down the leader who appeared to be running away from everyone.

One lap later the caution flag flew for Rick Miller who came to a stop on the backstretch.

On the final restart O'Brien was able to keep pace with the defending track champion but Carey Terrance who was plagued by bad luck the first 4 races this year was not to be denied as he grabbed his first win of 2011.

Tim O'Brien crossed the line in 2nd but failed post race inspection.

Chris Raabe, Gage Morin, Mike Perrotte and Clayton Benedict rounded out the top 5.

The Empire Super Sprints would take to the speedway next as Michael Parent and 2 time ESS winner Tommy Wickham led the field to the green with Parent getting the top spot.

Parent winless in his ESS career was on a mission as he built up nearly a half straightaway lead in the early going of the 25 lap affair, Wickham, Steve Poirier, Shawn Donath and Chuck Hebing made up the top 5 spots.

Dylan Swiernik, who was fresh of a 2nd place finish at Autodrome Drummond on June 4th came to a stop in turn 4 bringing out the yellow on lap 8.

On the next double file restart, 3 time and reigning series champion Poirier was able to get by Parent for the lead with Shawn Donath, Wickham and Hebing giving chase.

By lap 13 Steve Poirier had built up a full straightaway advantage and was lapping cars at will.

As Poirier checked out on the field the race began to heat up for positions 2 though 5.

Michael Parent, Shawn Donath, Tommy Wickham and Chuck Hebing all staged a great 4 car battle despite having heavy lapped traffic to deal with.

Donath grabbed the number 2 spot from Parent while behind that battle Hebing was able to get the 4th spot from Wickham with 5 to go. But at the finish it was Steve "Fireball" Poirier grabbing his 4th win in 5 races at MIR, Donath grabbed 2nd Michael Parent was able to hold off "The Cobra" Chuck Hebing for 3rd while Cory Sparks rounded out the top 5.

The DIRTcar Sportsman division saw 2010 MIR Sportsman Rookie of the Year Brent Kelsey and Dillon Sallows pace the field with Kelsey getting the jump, Sallows, Josh Jock, Kristian Smoke and Dylan Evoy made up the early top 5.

Kelsey was on a rail in his machine as he built up a full straightaway lead by lap 10 over Kristian Smoke, Evoy, Josh Jock and Jeff Phillips who scored his first career win the previous Sunday at Cornwall.

The first caution flew on lap 12 as Jenna David came to a stop in turn 2.

On the restart Kelsey continued to pace the field as Dylan Evoy made a move to get by Kristian Smoke for the runner up spot.

The yellow flew again on lap 14 as Neal Provost spun to the outside of turns 3 & 4.

On the next restart Kelsey continued his pursuit of his first career win with Evoy, Smoke, Phillips and last weeks winner Tom Conklin behind him.

The yellow came back out a lap later as Jenna David and Louie Jackson Jr. made heavy contact on the front stretch.

Both cars were heavily damaged but the drivers were uninjured.

On the last restart Kelsey looked to have things going his was until Evoy jumped to the top side with 2 to go and made the winning pass and scored his 2nd win in 3 races at Mohawk. Kelsey, Phillips, Smoke and Tom Conklin finished out the top 5.

In the DIRTcar Pro Stocks Stephane Lebrun and Louie Jackson led the field to the green with Jackson getting the top spot. Jackson began to open up his lead with Dave Bissonette, Lebrun, David Papineau and Dion Oakes in hot pursuit.

Caution flew on lap 5 as Roch Aubin who'd been running in the top 10 spun on the backstretch, at the same time Dave Bissonette stopped in turn 4 with heavy smoke coming from behind his #47 machine.

On the next restart Jackson continued his domination of the 20 lap event, Jody Swamp, David Papineau, Ricky Thompson and Dion Oakes rounded out the top 5.

Despite a mid race caution on lap 13 nobody was able to catch Louie Jackson as the defending Mr. DIRTcar Series Pro Stock Champion collected his first win of the year over Swamp, Marc Lalonde, Ricky Thompson and last weeks winner David Papineau.

The Bandits concluded the nights action with last weeks winner John Green and Ernie Cree setting the pace with Green getting the early race lead, Owen White, Cree, Dan Denoyers and Nolan Swamp completed the top 5.

Only 1 caution slowed the race as Blaze Benedict came to a halt in turn 2 on lap 5.

The final 7 laps saw a great battle between John Green, Derek Colbert and Nolan Swamp.

On the final lap Swamp and White tangled in turn 4 forcing Swamp into the wall and giving Derek Colbert his first win of the year in the Bandit division. Ernie Cree crossed in 2nd with White, Corey Castell and John Green rounding out the top 5 spots.

Next week Parkway Country Polaris will present the first round of the Bailey Motor Company Pro Stock Series along with a regular card of DIRTCar 358 Modifieds, DIRTcar Sportsman, and Bandits.
