MASSENA -- Yes, it was hot for May 12, but not hot enough today to set a record for the date at Richards Field, Massena International Airport.
The high for today at the official National Weather Service station at the airport was 80 in the official readings for 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.
The record for May 12 at KMSS, the Massena airport’s designation, was 86 degrees set in 1986.
In Potsdam, at Damon Field, the temperature peaked out at 81 degrees at about 4 p.m., and at the Ogdensburg International Airport, the temperature had climbed to 83 degrees at 4:05 p.m., up a degree from 82 just five minutes before.
The National Weather Service predicts that the high temperature in Massena tomorrow won’t come close the record. The high is expected to be about 70 degrees tomorrow with rain, nowhere near the record high of 83 degrees set in 1992.
