OSWEGATCHIE -- Weapons possession, resisting arrest and other charges were leveled against three men after county sheriff’s detectives and deputies freed a parole violator who had been hidden inside of a particle board bed and was unable to remove himself.

St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s detectives and deputies charged Barry. J. Crayford, 42, as an absconder from New York State Parole, two counts of criminal possession of a firearm and resisting arrest, all class A misdemeanors.

Gary “Bud” Holland, 45, was charged with three counts of criminal possession of a firearm, resisting arrest, and second-degree obstruction of governmental administration, all class A misdemeanors.

Randy Durham, 35, was arrested for resisting arrest and second-degree obstruction of governmental administration, both class A misdemeanors.

A press release from the sheriff’s department said that while detectives and deputies were attempting to arrest Barry J. Crayford as an absconder from New York State Parole, one of the deputies observed who they believed to be Crayford run into Holland’s residence at 203 Love Joy Road upon arrival.

Detectives say they obtained a search warrant for the Holland residence, signed by Morristown Town Justice James Philips.

Deputies entered the home and initially observed no signs of Crayford inside the residence, the sheriff’s department said.

Upon further investigation, police say they figured out that Crayford was under a bed inside the residence. Deputies said Holland and Durham had encased Crayford’s entire body in particle board using screws and other materials.

After finding Crayford under the bed, he was ordered out but was unable to remove himself, deputies said. The detectives and deputies broke the particle board and freed him.

After the particle boards were removed, Crayford, a convicted felon, allegedly had two high-powered rifles, sheriff’s detectives said. Additionally, in plain view of a second bedroom was another rifle that belonged to Holland. Holland is also a convicted felony sex offender, said the department.

All three men were arraigned in the Town of Morristown by Judge Phillips.

Crayford was held on $7,500 cash bail, Holland was held on $5,000 cash bail and Durham was held on $5,000 cash bail.

All three men are to re-appear in court at a later date.

St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s office members were assisted by agents of the U. S. Border Patrol and Customs stationed in Ogdensburg.

Investigating officers were Detective Sean P. O’Brien, Detective Rick Engle, Deputy Colin Nicol, and Deputy Chris Bleau.
