The Tri-Town Chamber of Commerce named William Demo the chamber’s 2017 Person of The Year.
“Bill’s dedication to selling raffle tickets for various local organizations has helped raise funds to achieve many goals,” the chamber said in an email. “Mr. Demo’s efforts have, and continue to, enrich the Tri-Town community."
The chamber said Demo has sold over $100,000 in raffle tickets throughout his life, sometimes buying them himself.
Many organizations have benefited from his work, including St. Patrick’s Church, Brasher-Winthrop Fire Dept., St. Lawrence Central sport teams, Lion’s Club, Chamber of Commerce, Special Olympics and others.
He has spent over 25 years serving on the SUNY Canton Foundation board, where he established a scholarship strictly for attending SLC graduates.
He has been, in many different capacities, involved with the local fire services for over 60 years, becoming a member at the age of 18.
He has served on the Brasher Town Council for 56 years. He is a member of the Quad Town Lion’s Club and played a role in the construction of the Tri-Town Arena, Brasher Town Hall and the Brasher-Winthrop Fire Station.
"His continuing support and commitment to the Tri-Town Community has never gone unnoticed and is greatly appreciated," the chamber said.
