Devin Edward, the 15-year-old DeKalb Junction teen with Type 1 diabetes and team leader of The Cure-iers, was surprised By Dr. Stacy Howlett with the award for Volunteer of the Year at the recent Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walkin' for Willz to Cure Diabetes day.
He was selected for his innovative ways to gather funds and efforts at public awareness of the problems that diabetics face daily.
He was also awarded after the walk as highest fundraiser for bringing in the highest amount of donations.
He pointed out that he could not have done any of this without his team: Richard and Rosemarie Edward, Ruthanne L'Hommedieu, Kayla Briggs, Carl Bennett and Megan Wescott.
He was inspired by meeting with Sen. Patty Ritchie and American Idol Finalist/accoustical performer and fellow Diabetic Crystal Bowersox
