MASSENA – An autopsy performed in Albany today has determined the decomsing body found on State Route 420 near the Massena Industrial Park on Friday was a female, according to state police.

The autopsy was performed at the Albany Medical Center, police said.

While Dr. Michael Sikirica, a forensic pathologist, determined the gender, police said they have not yet been able to identify the body.

The cause and manner of death are still pending further forensic examination, police added. How long ago the person might have died was not discussed in the press release from the state police.

Police are continuing to follow up on leads from the public regarding missing persons in hopes of identifying the body. Several calls have been received since Aug. 29 and some of the information received is still awaiting verification, police said.

However, many of the individuals reported missing have been located in good health, police said.

Anyone who is aware of a missing person who has not yet been reported to law enforcement is asked to call the state police at 518-897-2000.
