POTSDAM – The village’s current code enforcement officer, Greg Thompson, has been appointed assistant village administrator while current administrator Everett Basford helps him get up to speed as permanent administrator.

When that is accomplished, Basford will leave and Thompson will be appointed administrator, according to Mayor Ron Tischler.

Thompson’s starting salary is $60,000 a year, “and when he’s appointed full time, we’ll go on from there,” Tischler said.

“He’s pretty excited and very positive,” Tischler said. “He wants to learn and make Potsdam a better place,” the mayor said.

"It's an opportunity to be challenged and grow professionally," Thompson said. "I'd like to believe Potsdam is in a realy good position to move forward positively and I'd like to be a part of that."

“Everett Basford has graciously volunteered to stay and help him with a smooth transition,” Tischler said.

He said it would be “hard to put a time frame” on Thompson’s permanent appointment, but he estimated it would be after the first of the year.
