Gov. Andrew Cuomo has scheduled what his office calls an economic development announcement in Saranac Lake for noon today, leading to speculation that the Adirondack village has won the 2018 North Country Downtown Revitalization Initiative grant of $10 million.
Potsdam, Canton and other communities in the seven-county North Country Regional Economic Development Council region have applied for the $10 million this year, the third year of the grants.
Potsdam has made a special effort to secure the grant this year, having been told last year that they finished a close second to last year's winner, Watertown.
Plattsburgh won in 2016.
