CPS Meet the Arts series for 2010-11 includes puppetry, music, modern dance

POTSDAM – Audiences of all ages will enjoy the family-friendly programs in Community Performance Series Meet the Arts series. This season will showcase puppetry, modern dance, cultural music and movie score selections from The Orchestra of Northern New York (ONNY).

2010-11 CPS Meet the Arts series:

• Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia presents Frederick, Swimmy and Inch by Inch, Oct. 5 at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. in Snell Music Theater: Drawn from Leo Lionni’s books, these stories feature innovative puppetry styles, imaginative lighting techniques and an original music score.

• Joanne Shenandoah, Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Hosmer Hall: Shenandoah is a Grammy Award and 12-time Native American Music Award- winning artist, and Wolf Clan member of the Iroquois Confederacy.

• The Orchestra of Northern New York, “Let’s Go to the Movies,” March 18 at noon in Hosmer Hall: Directed by Kenneth Andrews, this concert features selections from blockbuster film favorites like “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Titanic” and “Batman: Dark Knight.”

• Corbian Visual Arts and Dance presents Darwin the Dinosaur, April 28 at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. in Snell Theater: Modern dance, special lighting and visual effects make this show what the Detroit Music Hall calls “a truly unique and innovative theater experience.”

Season tickets are now on sale and can be purchased through the CPS Box Office, located in Snell Hall on the SUNY Potsdam campus, by calling 267-2277, or visiting www.cpspotsdam.org. Individual event tickets will be available for purchase beginning Aug. 23.
