Cousins named class leaders at Edwards-Knox Central School

EDWARDS -- Two cousins are Edwards-Knox 2018 leaders with the highest grade point averages in their senior class.

Travis White, son Robert and Stacy White, Russell, is the Edwards-Knox Class of 2018 valedictorian with a 97.3 cumulative average. His cousin, Alexa A. White, daughter of Mark and Sherry White, Russell, is the salutatorian, with a 97 cumulative average.

Travis White will earn an advanced Regents diploma with honors, with mastery in mathematics and science. He has been on the outstanding honor roll his entire high school career and is a member of the National Honor Society, where he is secretary.

He has received numerous academic awards that include the Edwards Knox Outstanding Performance Awards in English, Spanish, global history, anatomy & physiology, band, and jazz ensemble. He was nominated for Rochester Institute of Technology’s Creativity and Innovation Award, University of Rochester’s Bausch & Lomb Science Award and Clarkson’s Leadership Award.

He also “possesses a great deal of artistic and musical talent,” school officials said in an announcement. During his high school career, he has participated in NYSMMA and All-County Band as well as Edwards-Knox concert and jazz bands. He also participated in the school musical and the senior play, “where he feels he gained a great deal of confidence as well as gained new friends,” the announcement said. His artistic abilities have also been noted by the Yearbook Committee.

As an athlete, he has been a member of the baseball team for a year, the basketball team for two years and the soccer team for four years. He has received Section X All Academic Awards, Scholar Athlete Individual and Team Awards, and Section X Sportsmanship Awards for his participation on the soccer team.

He plans to attend the Rochester Institute of Technology to study physics.

Alexa White will earn an advanced Regents diploma with honors, with mastery in mathematics and science. She has been on the outstanding honor roll her entire high school career. He is a member of the National Honor Society and is the group’s president.

She earned numerous awards and recognition for her school work. She received the Edwards Knox Outstanding Performance Awards in geometry, chemistry, Earth science, global history, chorus and lifeguarding. She was awarded the Air Force Math & Science Award. She was also nominated for Elmira’s College Key Award and Rochester Institute of Technology’s Creativity & Innovation Award.

She is “very musical,” the announcement reads. She participated in NYSSMA, All-State Band, All-County Band, Area All-State Chorus, St. Lawrence County orchestra, as well as Edwards-Knox’s chorus, concert band and jazz band. She has been a cast member of the school musicals for many years, and last year she was cast as Rizzo in “Grease.” She is a 7 News Arts All-Star.

She is also an athlete. She has been a member of the softball team for one year, basketball team for three years and soccer team for four years. She has earned many athletic awards, including Scholar Athlete Individual and Team Awards, Section X All Academic Awards in both soccer and basketball as well as a Sportsmanship Award in soccer. Alexa has been a varsity soccer player for three years and was the goalie for the 2017 team with a “very high save ratio,” the announcement said. This team had an undefeated season and continued their post-season play to the state playoffs.

“Alexa is proud to have been a member of this team and for the part she played in these accomplishments,” the announcement reads.

She plans to attend the University of Vermont.
