St. Lawrence County held two Household Hazardous Waste Collection events this year, one in Canton in May and one in Ogdensburg earlier this month, and the development Authority of the North Country says the program is a success.
DANC, which coordinates solid waste disposal over several North Country counties, said in all, 440 vehicles dropped off materials for disposal.
There were 80 pallets of electronic waste collected for recycling. Hazardous waste materials dropped off, such as oil based paints, pesticides, chemicals, fluorescent tubes and other materials, resulted in 65 55-gallon drums, 38 cubic-yard boxes, and 11 cartons being collected for disposal.
At the August collection, three Environmental Management Council members, David Katz, Dawn Howard and Roy Horst, volunteered their time to help with the collection.
