County gets $185,000 Homeland Security grant for terrorism prevention

CANTON -- St. Lawrence County accepted $185,000 from the Department of Homeland Security to assist in terrorism prevention.

According to the resolution $138,750 will go to the St. Lawrence County Office of Emergency Services. The remaining $46,250 will go to the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department.

The funding comes through the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services Local Application for FY2014 State Homeland Security Program and State Law Enforcement Terrorism Prevention Program

The resolution did not include specifics as to how the money would be spent, but money was transferred to budget lines S FA Homeland Security and X FA Homeland Security.

“This grant will facilitate St. Lawrence County’s ability to support the new 2014-2016 New York State Homeland Security Strategy and assist law enforcement terrorism prevention activities,” the resolution says.

According to the resolution any money not spent in this fiscal year will be remain with the respective departments for later use.
