CANTON -- A Cornell Cooperative Extension program director is charged with felonies after being accused of a gift card scam, according to the St. Lawrence County sheriff’s office.
Misty T. Cisneros, 26, of state Route 68, Canton was charged Thursday with fourth-degree grand larceny, first-degree scheme to defraud and first-degree falsifying business records, all felonies, and misdemeanor third-degree forgery, deputies said.
Between July and November 2017, Cisneros is accused of filling out bogus paperwork to obtain $10 gift cards that were supposed to be given to participants in the CCE Cooking Matters class, which she coordinated. Participants in the class would learn to cook a meal for under $10, and were to get an in-store tour and receive a $10 gift card for that grocery store, sheriff’s detectives said.
Detectives said they began their investigation after getting a complaint from CCE.
She was charged and released with appearance tickets for Canton Town Court on a later date.
Fourth-degree grand larceny is charged in New York State when $1,000 or more is alleged to have been taken.
