POTSDAM -- The Neighborhood Pavilion Project got a boost with a donation of $1,000 from Community Bank, NA.
The project's mission is to build a place to promote community activities, bring people together, and provide a safe space for families to gather all year round.
The plan is to build the large pavilion, an outdoor space under cover, at the Lawrence Avenue Elementary School. It will be a place where families can gather for picnics or celebrations while enjoying the nearby playground; where community organizations or school clubs can meet or hold public events; where school children can enjoy lessons outside in the fresh air while being sheltered from the sun.
PEOF Neighborhood Pavilion Committee Co-Chairs Penni Varney and Tina Parker
envision an outdoor venue to hold concerts of all kinds, yoga and tai chi classes in the open air, and in the winter, broomball and curling tourneys. The opportunities for this gathering place are manifold.
They will need help from the community to make the fundraising effort go even further. Here are the ways you can make a donation:
• Make a donation online at Northern New York Community Foundation at nnycf.org and designate the PEOF Neighborhood Pavilion Project as the recipient.
• Make a check payable to the PEOF Neighborhood Pavilion Project and mail to PEOF Neighborhood Pavilion, 29 Leroy Street, Potsdam, NY 13676
• Call the PEOF Neighborhood Pavilion Committee at 315-265-2000.
