Cold temps expected to dominate next week of weather in St. Lawrence County

Polar high pressure will crest over the St. Lawrence Valley this morning and then move east this afternoon, allowing temperatures to warm through Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Wind chill values this morning are as low as -13, forecasters say. Expect a high around 21.

Overnight temps will drop to around 12 and rise to about 30 on Tuesday, the service says.

An arctic front moving through Wednesday will bring a quick shot of snow to the area and a return to bitterly cold temperatures Wednesday night, with only gradual moderation in temperatures expected through the end of the work week.

The forecast through next weekend is as follows:

Tuesday

A 20 percent chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a high near 30. Southwest wind around 6 mph.

Tuesday Night

A 50 percent chance of snow showers after 8pm. Cloudy, with a low around 26. Southwest wind 5 to 13 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Wednesday

Snow showers likely, mainly before noon. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 32. Southwest wind 13 to 16 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.

Partly cloudy, with a low around -5. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Thursday

Mostly sunny, with a high near 13. Light and variable wind.

Thursday Night

A 40 percent chance of snow showers after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 5. Light east wind.

Friday

A 40 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 25. Light and variable wind becoming west around 6 mph in the afternoon.

Mostly cloudy, with a low around 2. West wind around 6 mph.

A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 12. North wind around 6 mph.
