The four Division I ice hockey teams from Clarkson University and St. Lawrence University begin their campaigns for the 2014-2015 season this weekend as CU’s women’s team members vie to defend their 2014 NCAA national championship.

Guided by seventh-year head coach Matt Desrosiers, a young Golden Knight’s women’s squad gets things rolling in the 12th season in the program's history.

After the first SLU-CU contest of the season Friday, Oct. 3 at SLU’s Appleton Arena, the two women’s teams meet again the next day when the Clarkson women raise their championship banner into the rafters in their home opener at Cheel Arena. The festivities begin at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4 with free food and activities, including the banner raising, before the 4 p.m. game against the Saints. NCAA rings will be presented to the team following the game.

St. Lawrence’s women skaters started their season last week with an exhibition game against McGill at home, losing 7-4.

The Knights and Saints play two more games Tuesday, Oct. 28 in Potsdam and Tuesday, Feb. 3 in Canton in league play.

The men Knights and Saints each begin their seasons this weekend in non-ECAC games against Canadian teams at home.

The Saints play Carleton University at 7 p.m. Saturday and the Knights meet Queen’s University 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

The CU team hosts its annual "Skate With a Knight" at Cheel at the Sunday game. The Knights take to the ice with fans, signing autographs and posing for pictures after the game. The "Skate With A Knight" event is free and open to the public.

The two men’s teams meet four times this season. They will play at Appleton Arena Friday, Oct. 31 and at Cheel Arena Saturday, Nov. 1, in a pair of non-ECAC games. They meet again at Appleton Saturday, Dec. 6 and at Cheel Saturday, Jan. 31 in ECAC league games.

The regular men’s season winds up Friday, Feb. 28 with the Saints at RPI in Troy and the Knights at Union College in nearby Schenectady.

The women’s regular season finishes Feb. 21 as the Knights meet Harvard in Cambridge, Mass. and the Saints play Dartmouth in Hanover. N.H.
