NORWOOD -- This past Saturday, Team Claire invited families from all over St. Lawrence County to “Get Fit for a Cure” at Claire’s Fitness Fun Day.
The event was at Norwood-Norfolk Central School and raised over $3,800 for The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, in honor of NNCS kindergarten student Claire Nezezon, daughter of Kris and Jessica Nezezon, Norwood.
Claire was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis (CF) when she was just two weeks old.
“At the time, her family had no idea what CF even was, but only heard the words “life threatening” and knew this sweet beautiful little girl would have to fight hard, but certainly not alone,” said Jamie Raymonda, event organizers and Claire’s aunt.
“We knew we had to be strong for Claire and we were willing to do whatever we had to do, to keep her healthy,” Jessica Nezezon said. “It’s amazing the support Claire has and the amount of family and friends that have come together to form Team Claire, to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in hopes of a cure in Claire’s future.”
“There was certainly something for everyone at this event…the kids were having so much fun, barely realizing they were even exercising,” Raymonda said.
Claire’s Fitness Fun Day was created to encourage kids to exercise but showing them how to do so in a fun way. Throughout the day instructors from local businesses and youth programs demonstrated their form of fitness, while having the kids follow along to fun music. Kids could try Zumba, yoga, Tae Kwon Do, dance, hockey, basketball, Jiu Jitsu, a personal trainer lead them in a kid fit class, and Exercise with Elsa.
“Team Claire was overwhelmed by the generosity and support of the local community from all the families who attended, the great sponsors who donated to the silent auction and raffle, teachers pitching in to help, instructors donating their time, Team Claire family and friends volunteering, and NNCS Key Club for sponsoring the event,” Raymonda said. “It’s because of your help and your compassion that we are so proud to make such an amazing contribution to the CF Foundation in honor of Claire.”
