Children's museum now officially open in Potsdam

POTSDAM -- The North Country Children's Museum at 10 Raymond Street is now officially open to the public.

The extensive, months-long renovations of the red barn building at the site are no complete and the museum made a formal open announcement Saturday, July 7.

The museum promotes learning that is a hands-on, minds-on, interactive experience. With exhibits that celebrate the cultural and geographical resources of the North Country, visitors will find play areas and tinker spaces for all ages to get kids thinking, making, and doing, said the museum website.

Visitors can build and balance in the Construction Zone or run the store in our Kids Co-Op and Bakery. Children and adults can explore the Raquette River in the museum Adirondack Water Play exhibit or light up their minds with the STEAM Power everbright art wall and engineering lab.

The museum's Playspace, especially designed for crawlers, toddlers and preschoolers, gets little ones moving with sensory and imaginative play, the museum website said.

NCCM is working with professional exhibit design firm Alchemy Studios to create an innovative and engaging museum experience. Alchemy Studios has designed exhibits for nationally and internationally renowned museums including the Brooklyn Children’s Museum and the Smithsonian.

Admission to the museum is $8 per person, or free to children younger than 12 months, or free for museum members. Discounted membership rates are available for children who are eligible for free or reduced lunches. Children younger than 12 years must me accompanied by an adult.

The museum will be open Wednesday through Sunday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Family museum memberships cost $85, and allows admission of up to two adults and children living in the same household, free admission to special Saturday programs and a 10% discount on a NCCM events, camps, classes, and birthday parties.

Family Membership Plus costs $115, admits up to two adults and children living in the same household, plus two additional adults, allows free admission to special Saturday programs and a 10% discount on NCCM events, camps, classes, and birthday parties.

And, the Giving Membership costs $60, and donates a membership to a local family in need.
