Changes being considered to the current freshwater fishing regulations are now available for review and comment to the state Department of Environmental Conservation.
Obtaining feedback during this informal phase helps DEC gauge public interest and concerns about the proposed changes before developing regulations to implement the changes.
The proposed changes can now be seen on the DEC Website at http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/73762.html. There are instructions on how to submit comments online.
Changes being considered include modifications to the seasons, size limits, and creel limits on certain waters for popular game fish such as trout, salmon, walleye, black bass, pickerel, muskellunge, and tiger muskellunge. Additional suggested changes pertain to ice fishing, and to gear requirements for certain angling practices.
Comments will be accepted through June 24. Comments will be used to help craft a rule making proposal. If adopted, changes would become effective on Oct. 1, 2012.
