A Canton woman has started a Facebook page dedicated to being a hub for children’s events around the North Country.
“I am a local school teacher and mother of two young boys and feel there are lots of events in the area but they are advertised all over the place,” Sarah Hopper said.
Hopper, who teaches at Heuvelton Central School, says she created the page North Country Activities for Kids about one month ago after having been disappointed to miss out on events with her children.
Her goal is for the page to serve St. Lawrence County, Franklin County, Jefferson County, and Lewis County.
“It would be great if local businesses and schools wanted to post events on the site directly,” she says.
Hopper says she hope the page will offer parents, grandparents, and children the opportunity to find quality activities and I hope that this will beat the winter boredom and decrease youth alcohol and drug abuse.
“The page has 120 likes so far and a loyal following but needs more activity to keep afloat. I will return to teaching soon and am hoping it will offer the whole community a great resource,” she said.
Hopper is looking for people to helping with posting updates to keep the page running.
“We would love library events, town rec. programs, youth sports, Cubby T. Clown, bounce house places, church programs, local businesses including mini golf, bowling, go karts and more to directly post,” Hopper says.
The page can be found at https://www.facebook.com/Northcountryactivitiesforkids.
