CANTON – Canton town supervisor MaryAnn Ashley signed a proclamation from the Daughters of the American Revolution Nihanawate Chapter, declaring Sept. 17-23 as Constitution Week in the town.
The proclamation was the first Ashley has signed since assuming the office at the beginning of the year.
“I’m proud that this is my first one,” Ashley said.
According to the DAR, Constitution Week, celebrated annually nationwide, is to: emphasize citizens' responsibilities for protecting and defending the Constitution, inform people that the Constitution is the basis for America's great heritage and the foundation for our way of life, and encourage the study of the historical events which led to the framing of the Constitution in September 1787.
