CANTON – The town board has approved its annual funding payment to the Canton Free Library.
The library will receive $30,958 from the town. Town Supervisor Mary Ann Ashley said at a recent board meeting that the payments to the library have been steadily decreasing over the years since the library now garners revenues through its own taxing district, based on the school district. The school district collects extra taxes on behalf of the library.
Canton Free Library receives around $300,000 from that arrangement, and distributes portions of that money to its branch libraries in Rensselaer Falls and Morley.
The last payment from the town to the library is slated for next year, said Ashley.
