CANTON -- A group of Canton students took 10th place at the state level of the Envirothon, but not before taking top honors at the regional competition at the North Adirondack Regional Envirothon at Paul Smith's College.
The contest gets teams of five competing in forestry, soils, aquatics, wildlife and a current issue. This year's current issue was sustainable agriculture and local foods.
The group answered questions and demonstrated hands-on application of their knowledge. Canton was the top finisher in wildlife, forestry and aquatics.
The regional contest drew 28 other squads from not only St. Lawrence, but also Franklin, Essex and Clinton counties.
The state contest was at Morrisville College. There, the Canton contingent, composed of Gemma Del Rossi, Grace Brown, Will Gallup and Zach Ladison, was joined by the other top three county finishers. They placed 10th out of 41 teams.
