CANTON -- Canton Police have made an arrest in connection with the Canton Dairy Queen fire Sunday.
Police Chief Jim Santimaw confirms an arrest has been made, but would not give further details yet.
The Dairy Queen at 51 Gouverneur St. was heavily damaged in the fire, which was reported to Canton Fire and Rescue at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 5.
The structure was declared a total loss after about 10 hours of effort by Canton volunteers and others from several area departments.
“Fire suppression efforts were made more difficult because of the multiple roof layers which allowed the fire to move within the void space between the original roof and a new truss roof,” wrote Fire Captain Nicholas Maneely in his account of the department’s response. “After an unsuccessful aggressive interior attack, firefighters moved outside to begin defensive tactics.”
It had been reported that fire investigators were looking into the origin of the fire.
No one was hurt or injured in the blaze.
