CANTON -- A man was charged with drug possession after Canton police officers responded to a report of a fire at 49 West Main St. Monday evening.
The fire was reported around 5:20 p.m. and rescue personnel quickly extinguished a small fire in the bedroom apartment C-7.
While on scene, police observed drug paraphernalia inside the apartment and a search warrant was obtained, officers said.
About 45 grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a small amount of cash was seized, police said.
John W. Gardner, 23, was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, seventh-degree criminal possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of marijuana.
He was released on appearance tickets returnable to Canton court March 9 at 1:30 p.m.
