Canton Church and Community Program gets $4,000 from NNY Community Foundation

CANTON -- The Canton Church and Community Program is evaluating its practices and services with an eye to improving their work with help from a $4,000 grant from Northern New York Community Foundation.

“We greatly appreciate the support of Northern New York Community Foundation as we begin this exciting process,” said C&CP Board President Patricia Alden.

As the need for assistance or different types of assistance often shifts, C&CP is evaluating all of its practices and services to make sure they are most effective and to investigate what new ventures might be added.

To help with the process, the board of directors has hired outside facilitator Amy Bonn of Finch Network of Plattsburgh, who specializes in rural poverty and in program evaluation.

Established in 1974 as an inter-faith initiative of ministers in several Canton churches, Church and Community Program operates a thrift shop and community food pantry in downtown Canton at the corner of Main Street and Riverside. The pantry serves 200 to 240 low-income households per month in the towns of Canton, Clare, DeKalb, Hermon, and Russell. The thrift shop provides used clothing at low prices or free to anyone who needs them. C&CP also has a small emergency fund for short-term financial help.
