CANTON — Canton Central School will re-advertise for a replacement for Superintendent William Gregory, who will retire this summer.
The Canton Central School superintendent position was widely advertised earlier this year, according to Thomas Burns, superintendent at St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES.
At the time of the deadline, Jan. 31, the district received nine applications, he said.
“The Board of Education president and vice-president met with me to review the credentials of the nine candidates. We determined that five candidates met the qualifications for the position,” Burns said.
Burns said these five candidates were reviewed by a stakeholder committee comprised of 13 individuals, including the director of operations, business manager, board of education members, teachers, administrators, support staff members, parents, and community members.
The committee selected three candidates to interview. Interviews with the stakeholder committee were conducted Feb. 27 and 28.
The BoE was given recommendations based on these interviews, he said.
“While it is the board¹s responsibility to hire and work directly with a new superintendent, it is also critical to involve stakeholders in the process,” he said. “At this time, the board has decided not to offer the position to any of the candidates, and will re-advertise for the position.”
