CANTON – Canton Central School is looking to purchase four 71-passenger buses and one all-wheel drive mini-van.
“The bus purchases are necessary to maintain our fleet on a seven year rotation,” according to CCS Superintendent Ronald P. Burke.
The cost of the buses and mini-van will not exceed $530,000 and will be reimbursed at the district's current transportation state aid rate of 90 percent, Burke said.
Canton Central School has chosen the seven-year rotation model as the district purchases extended warranties ensuring that any major repairs are covered, he said.
“This rotation also helps us to ensure that we have buses that are safe for student transport,” Burke said.
The requested mini-van is to replace a nine-year old passenger car. This vehicle is used as a cost-effective means to transport small numbers of student to special programs or to provide school transportation for students who are currently without adequate housing within the district as prescribed by law.
