CANTON -- Canoeing and kayaking people are all about playing, on the water and off, and this season is no exception.
The fans of Canton Canoe Weekend have already started playing contests off the water via the internet and the Canton Canoe Weekend Group page on Facebook.
The contests have small prizes but the real prize is in the playing and interacting with others in searching out the answers on the website and in local lore.
Prizes will include a matted photograph from Call of the Loon, free entry at Canton Canoe Weekend, free entry at Madrid Canoe Regatta, Swag from local sponsors, Canoe Earrings, two-hour gig of guitar and folk songs by local artist, a large Sergi's Pizza and more. If you are interested in donating items, contact Chuck Bolesh through the website.
The real prize comes on open water, paddling on the Grasse and Little Rivers in Canton not too long from now.
The Wednesday evening play session’s start at the Little River boat launch is open to all comers. The official event of the local paddling season is the “Little River Ramble” April 21 followed two weeks later by the three-day event, Canton Canoe Weekend.
