Canton Board of Education approves retirements and appointments

CANTON – The Canton Board of Education approved a retirement and several appointments at their Jan. 11 meeting.

Music teacher Susan Dean’s retirement was approved effective June 30. The BOE expressed their appreciation for her years of service to the district.

She worked at the school for over 30 years.

“We are losing a precious resource,” Canton Central Superintendent William “Bill” Gregory said. “She helped with plays and an elementary musical just about every year.”

Heather Knack was appointed choreographer for the 2018 High School Musical at a stipend of $532.

The board appointed Joshua Briggs, as a long-term substitute for mathematics Teacher, Laurey Rosser, effective retroactively to Jan. 5, through about Feb. 5, at a rate of $105 per day for the first ten days (to be paid $217 per day retroactive to the first of ten consecutive days, which does not include days when school is not in session).

Tressa Goolden was approved for a keyboard specialist position effective retroactively to Jan. 2 at the rate of $12.75 per hour.

BOE members appointed Dylan Morrison as its varsity wrestling coach for the 2017-18 season at a stipend of $4,442. This was a modification to the appointment approved by the BOE on Nov. 2.

Susan Taylor was appointed as a mentor teacher for the remainder of the 2017-18 school year at a prorated stipend of $500.

Alexander Watson approved as a cleaner, a probationary appointment, effective retroactively to Nov. 27, at a pro-rated salary of $26,750.
