POTSDAM -- Two veterans and a freshman gained Liberty League weekly honors on Monday for the Clarkson University men’s basketball team, and a pair of Clarkson University women’s hoopsters achieved conference nods for the second time this year, about halfway through the season.

Senior men Jonathan Hood (Cortlandt Manor, NY) and Rey Jefferson (Budd Lake, NJ) were selected as Liberty League Performers of the Week, while freshman Marques Charlton (Deer Lake, NY) was chosen as the Liberty League Rookie of the Week.

Hood scored a career-high 23 points (8-for-12 shooting from the floor) in a loss to Medaille last week, adding eight rebounds in the effort. This season, Hood is averaging 11.1 points (15th in the conference) and 7.7 rebounds (second in the league) through seven games this year. His classmate, Rey Jefferson, tossed in 18 points in the loss, making four 3-point field goals along the way. Jefferson ranks third in the Liberty League in 3-point field goals made (18) and also ranks eighth in 3-point field goal percentage (41.9%), while also ranking in the top 10 in the league in points per game (12.9) and steals (12).

Charlton, gaining the first Liberty League honor of his collegiate career, scored 12 points on 4-for-5 shooting against Medaille for the Knights. He has played in all seven games, starting once, and is averaging 7.0 points per game with 18 assists and 10 steals. He leads the conference in 3-point field goal percentage (61.5%) and is picking his spots well overall as he is shooting 64.3% from the floor overall.

Junior women Chrissy Scanlon (Queensbury, NY) and Carey Turner (Clifton Park, NY) were chosen as Liberty League Performers of the Week on Monday.

Though the Knights played just one game in the past seven days, a 93-82 loss to Medaille last week, Scanlon and Turner produced numbers that received notice. Scanlon came up just a single rebound short of a double-double, scoring 17 points and nine rebounds. Scanlon shot 6-for-11 from the floor and added a pair of blocked shots. For the season, Scanlon is averaging 10.9 points and 6.1 rebounds per game, figures that place her in the top 16 in the conference in both categories. Turner had a solid all-around game against Medaille, scoring 18 points with six rebounds and five assists. This year, Turner is averaging 11.3 points and 6.9 rebounds per contest. She has also made 28 free throws, the second-most in the Liberty League thus far.
