Boaters mark 'Safe Boating Week' in Ogdensburg with life jackets

OGDENSBURG -- Local boating groups and city officials joined on Saturday at the Dobisky Center to mark what they are calling “Safe Boating Week.”

Members of the St. Lawrence Sail and Power Squadron, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and Mayor Wayne Ashley posed for a photo wearing lifejackets as part of the “Ready, Set, Wear It!” safe boating campaign.

Ashley issued a proclamation officially recognizing “Safe Boating Week.”

The proclamation is "supporting the goals and year-round effort of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Safe Boating Campaign to encourage all those who boat to practice safe boating habits,” according to Stephen Trenton from the auxiliary

“It is proven that life jackets save lives and now, with so many styles and colors, there is no reason not to find on that is comfortable and fashionable enough to wear whenever you're on the water,” Trenton said in an email.
