Several bills that would have modified the controversial NY SAFE Act are being held by the state government's Codes Committee and Assemblyman Marc Butler is accusing them of doing it intentionally to prevent a vote, he said in a statement.
Butler says repealing the SAFE Act is a top priority for him.
He represents a portion of St. Lawrence County including Madrid, Norfolk, Stockholm, Parishville, Pierrepont, Clare, Colton, Clifton and Fine.
The three bills would repeal the act and reverse criminalization of what the law now defines as assault weapons.
"This bill would remove the definitions addressing cosmetic modifications like pistol grips on rifles, thumbhole stocks on shotguns and barrel shrouds on pistols," Butler's statement reads.
