You might want to harvest your tomatoes and bring in the begonias, because it’s going to freeze tonight.

The National Weather Service in Burlington has issued a freeze warning, which is in effect from midnight tonight to 8 a.m. Thursday.

The NWS says that widespread freezing temperatures will bring an end to the growing season for any unprotected plants and could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.

Skies cleared today and as the sun goes down, radiational cooling will allow temperatures to dip into the mid- to upper 20s across the St. Lawrence Valley and into the Adirondacks tonight and Thursday night before things warm up again on Friday.

It will be sunny with high temperatures today and Thursday around 60 degrees, and a few degrees cooler in higher elevations.

It will be a bit breezy today, with winds from the north at 14 to 17 mph with some higher gusts, but as a high pressure system moves over the region, winds will calm tonight.

On Friday, frost will linger while temperatures rise to the low to mid 60s.

Meanwhile clear nights and sunny days will prevail right through next Tuesday, the Weather Service predicts, with daytime temperatures near 70 or higher.
