POTSDAM -- An auction company in Tulsa, Okla. has a pending offer on a former bank building in Potsdam, but no bid on another in Massena.
Williams and Williams Real Estate opened bidding on former First Niagara Bank branch buildings in Potsdam and Massena Aug. 8.
The Potsdam location, an 8,760 square foot building at 14 Elm St., was listed as assessed at $684,000 on taxlookup.net prior to bidding.
The 7,342 square foot building at 16 Phillips St., Massena, was assessed at $500,000 on taxlookup.net.
The minimum opening bid on each building was set at $50,000.
A spokeswoman at Williams and Williams said they have a pending offer on the Potsdam building, but would not reveal the amount or the name of the bidder.
No bids were received on the Massena building, but the spokeswoman says the bidding will remain open for an unspecified time. The minimum bid remains at $50,000.
Anyone who wishes to bid on the building at 16 Phillips St, in Massena may call (800) 801-8003.
In 2011, Buffalo-based First Niagara bought 195 branches from United Kingdom-based HSBC, which included the Massena and Potsdam locations now going up for auction. They were closed in 2016 when Key Bank bought First Niagara and announced over 100 Key Bank and First Niagara branches would close or consolidate.
