Assemblywoman Russell receives teachers’ union endorsement

New York State United Teachers, the union that represents many public school educators in St. Lawrence County, has endorsed the re-election candidacy of Assemblywoman Addie J. Russell (D-Theresa).

“Fighting to ensure North Country schools get our fair share has been, and will remain, one of my top priorities,” said Russell, who represents the 116th “River District,” which includes all St. Lawrence County towns along the St. Lawrence as well as Canton, Potsdam, and other townships.

“I am grateful for, and proud to receive, the endorsement of this dedicated group of professionals who share my belief that our children are our future and greatest resource.

“For too long, the state’s budget has been balanced on the backs of our students and teachers,” Russell said. “Though progress has been made, there is much more work to be done and I will continue fighting to completely eliminate the GEA and provide our schools with the resources they deserve.”

Russell faces challenges from John Byrne, a Republican Cape Vincent town councilor, John S. Humphrey, who is also seeking the Republican nomination, and Lisbon beef farmer Russ Finley, a Conservative.
