MASSENA -- The 2016 American Legion Shootout was held at the Massena Rod and Gun Club on Saturday, Aug. 20.
Lanny Gagnier, St. Regis Falls Post 322, welcomed the shooters, MRGC President John Hurd delivered the safety briefing and Jim Purcell, also of Post 322, led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. Shooters from posts in Franklin and Clinton County were also in attendance.
The winners of this year's events were:
Youth Division: Gina Norcross, Post 219 Junior Auxiliary Malone
22 Rifle Open Sights: First, Pat Freeman, Post 1619 West Plattsburgh; Second, Jordan Freeman, Post 1619 West Plattsburgh; Third, Linda Jenkins, Post 322 St. Regis Falls Auxiliary.
22 Rifle Scoped: First, Pat Freeman; Second, Joel Labelle, SAL Post 219 Malone; Third, Jordan Freeman.
Large Bore Rifle: First, Jim Purcell; Second, Pat Freeman, Third, (tie) Earl DeBar and Lanny Gagnier, Post 322 St. Regis Falls.
Large Bore Rifle Scoped: First, Jordan Freeman; Second, Pat Freeman; Third, Joel Labelle.
Hand Gun Optical Sights: First, Earl DeBar; Second, Joel Labelle.
Hand Gun Open Sights: First, Earl DeBar; Second, Lanny Gagnier.
Overall Winner: Post 1619 West Plattsburgh.
After the completion of the shooting events a family picnic was held and prizes were announced. The annual event is open to all members of the American Legion Family and Canadian Legion. More info: Lenny Gagnier at (518) 856-0047.
