POTSDAM – The fourth suspect in an alleged home invasion in Potsdam March 6 has been released from Canton-Potsdam Hospital and charged with the same burglary and assault counts as three others.

Ervin E. Francis III, 43, North Lawrence, was stabbed in the abdomen with a knife by the victim, a resident of Maple Street, when the four suspects broke in wearing ski masks and armed with baseball bats.

He was taken to the hospital due to his wounds that day and has been treated. He was released from care today and was taken into custody by Potsdam Police for arraignment before Potsdam Town Justice Mason on charges of first-degree burglary and second-degree assault. He was released to the supervision of probation authorities.

Also arrested today was Nicholas M. Fiacco of Potsdam, who was charged with second-degree criminal possession of marijuana after a warranted search made in connection with the burglary turned up a large amount of pot. He also was released to probation authorities.

Potsdam Police had charged Jerika L. Francis, 18, Keith B. Christy, 19, and Logan M. Johns, 19, with first degree burglary and second-degree assault. They were located after fleeing the scene. Jerika Francis and Johns were jailed on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond. Christy was jailed on $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond.

Potsdam police said Ervin Francis, who was stabbed during the home invasion, was found by police at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, where he was being treated for his wounds. Ervin Francis was not formally charged at that time since he was undergoing treatment, but a warrant for his arrest was issued and was applied today.

The victim was treated for head and face injuries and Members of the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, the state police, U.S. Border Patrol, and SUNY Potsdam Police assisted on scene.
