Agricultural resources directory added to St. Lawrence County website

CANTON — A directory of agricultural resources for farm operations and agri-businesses is now available on St. Lawrence County’s website.

Matilda M. Larson, a Planner II with the St. Lawrence County Planning Office, said the directory was created to help the full spectrum of the farming community, from retiring farmers who need to prepare a succession plan to new farmers who want to start their business in the county. Larson explained the directory is also intended to help farm operators find out where they can go to get technical assistance to improve operations, or where they can get financing.

“When the directory was being prepared,” said Larson “I wanted it to list resources that a farmer would hear about when talking to other farmers in the community.”

The St. Lawrence County Ag Resource Directory is posted on the County’s website at farming.stlawco.org, and was also distributed electronically to organizations listed in the document.

“Let’s say a new farmer walks into the Soil and Water Conservation District office, the staff there can give the farmer a copy of this directory to learn where they can get help with marketing or business planning, or what loan programs are available in the county.”

Larson said the directory will be updated periodically to include additional services and resources that are brought to her attention.
