Adirondack Park Agency is accepting public comment on proposed projects in the Bog River Complex, located in the towns of Colton and Piercefield, and Cranberry Lake Wild Forest, in the towns of Fine, Clifton and Colton.
The Bog River Complex project would include designation of a parking area and trail to the summit of Goodman Mountain and formal recognition of the name "Goodman Mountain." It would also designate a parking area and unmarked ski and hiking trail along the Bog River. The trail is known locally as the Otter Point Trail.
The proposed Cranberry Lake Wild Forest project would create two new hiking and skiing connector trails, the Cranberry Lake 50 West and the Cranberry Lake 50 East, which would loop around Cranberry Lake. The goal is to provide hikers and skiers with a route to avoid 4 miles of state Route 3, which is part of the Cranberry Lake 50 trail. It would include a 1.5 mile section along Route 3 to provide access to the hamlet of Cranberry Lake.
Written comments should be sent to NYS Adirondack Park Agency, P.O. Box 99, 1133 NYS Route 86, Ray Brook, NY 12977. Comments can be emailed to apa_slmp@gw.dec.state.ny.us.
Further description of the proposed projects can be downloaded for free from www.apa.state.ny.us.
