Adirondack Regional Federal Credit Union is warning people of a text message scam using the institution's name.
They say although the scammers appear to have obtained a cell phone number database, their system was not hacked and all personal data the credit union holds is secure.
The scam works by sending a text message that says there is a problem with an Adirondack Regional Credit Union account and gives a phone number to call.
"We’ve learned since this has unfolded that members of our financial institution and non- members have been misled into giving out their personal information," credit union CEO Cathy Staves says in a statement.
She warns anyone getting the text to not give out any personal information and adds that the credit union does not solicit such details by text, email or phone calls.
