POTSDAM – Village police have charged a Potsdam teen with attempted theft from a store just days after he was arrested on a similar charge.
Michael S. Brownell, 17, is accused of trying to leave Stewart’s on Market Street Tuesday afternoon with candy he allegedly had not paid for.
Police said as they were processing him, they found a small amount of marijuana.
He was arraigned on charges of petty theft and unlawful possession of marijuana and sent to the county jail pending a later court appearance.
On Sunday, police arrested Brownell and charged him with petit larceny after he allegedly tried to steal items from the Sugar Creek on Maple Street. Police said Brownell was also trespassing there, since he had been told before that he was not allowed in the store.
In addition, Brownell was charged last August with making graffiti on a downtown Potsdam building.
