POTSDAM – A 71-year-old man who has been arrested multiple times for repeatedly harassing his ex-girlfriend has been sent to county jail on $1,500 bail, according to village police.

Marshall Chase, 71, Potsdam, was charged with second-degree harassment and second-degree criminal contempt at 12:46 p.m. Sunday.

He was arraigned by Justice Nicholas Pignone in Potsdam Village Court and remanded to St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility on the cash bail.

Chase was initially charged with fourth-degree stalking for an incident that reportedly occurred Oct. 21 on the roadside of State Rt. 72. Deputies said Chase followed and continuously harassed the victim on three separate occasions over the period of a month.

Again, on Nov. 1, deputies charged Chase with criminal contempt for allegedly violating a stay away order of protection for the victim.

On Nov. 12, Chase was charged with second-degree criminal contempt for again violating an order of protection. At that time, he was remanded to county jail in lieu of $500 bail.
