4-H dairy shows at Gouverneur-St. Lawrence County Fair produce winners

GOUVERNEUR -- The cattle barns were busy during the Gouverneur-St. Lawrence County Fair last week. Any day of the week you could catch 4-H youth showing off their cattle, according to Anita Morrill of Cornell Cooperative Extension of St. Lawrence County.

Morrill reports on the winners:

In the Milking Shorthorn Show Chloe Renaud of Hammond took Jr. Champion with her Spring Yearling while Shawn Miller of Gouverneur and his Spring Yearling were Reserve Jr. Champion. Christine Hitchman of Canton and her Jr. Two Year old were the Sr. Champions. Reserve Sr. Champion honors went to Shelby Miller of Gouverneur and her aged cow. The Grand Champion of the Milking Shorthorn 4-H Show was Christine Hitchman and her Jr. 2 Yr. Old, and Shelby Miller of Gouverneur came away with the Reserve Grand Champion honors with her aged cow.

The Guernsey 4-H Dairy Show saw Rebecca Monica and her Fall Heifer take both Jr. Champion and Grand Champion . Reserve Jr. Champion of the Guernsey Show was Abby Hunter and her Winter Heifer, as well as taking the Reserve Grand Champion honor.

The 4-H Holstein Dairy Show saw Taylor Morrill from DeKalb Junction winning the Jr. Champion spot with her Fall Yearling. Paige Morrill also from DeKalb Junction was the Reserve Jr. Champion with her Summer Yearling. Paige Morrill’s Aged Cow took Sr. Champion honors while her Five Year Old was Reserve Sr. Champion. The Grand Champion for the 4-H Holstein Show was Paige Morrill’s Aged Cow and her Five Year Old was the Reserve Grand Champion.

The Jr. Champion at the 4-H Brown Swiss Dairy Show was Jesse Hargrave of Heuvelton with his Fall Calf, and Trevor Martin of Gouverneur was Reserve Jr. Champion with his Winter Yearling. Sr. Champion honors went to Mary Miller of Gouverneur and her Aged Cow, while Jesse Hargrave once again took honors winning the Reserve Sr. Champion with his Jr. Three Year Old. The Grand Champion of the 4-H Brown Swiss Dairy Show was Mary Miller and her Aged Cow, and Reserve Grand Champion went to Jesse Hargrave and his Fall Calf.

At the 4-H Jersey Dairy Show Sadie Smith, DeKalb Junction and her Winter Yearling were the Jr. Champions and Reserve Jr. Champion went to Hailey Neuroth, Hammond and her Spring Yearling. Sr. Champion honors went once again to Sadie Smith with her Jr. 3 Year Old, and Reserve Sr. Champion went to Megan Lynch of Antwerp and her Sr. 2 Year Old. Sadie Smith’s Jr. 3 Year Old was the Grand Champion and Megan Lynch’s Sr. 2 Year old was the Reserve Grand Champion.

The Jr. Champion of the 4-H Ayrshire Dairy show was Vanessa Bullock of Edwards and her Fall Yearling, and Reserve Jr. Champion was Cody Hoffman of Gouverneur and his Winter Calf. Cody once again took honors as he and his 4 Year Old were the Sr. Champions, while his Sr. 3 Year Old came away with the Reserve Sr. Champion honors. Grand Champion 4-H Ayrshire went to Cody’s 4 Year Old and his Jr. 3 Year old was the Reserve Grand Champion.
