MADRID -- Over 300 attended the annual summer picnic for all county seniors Friday, July 11 at the Madrid Community Park.
The annual affair is sponsored by the St. Lawrence County Office for the Aging and the St. Lawrence County Council of Senior Citizens.
The sunny day was filled with activities such as bingo, a 50/50 raffle, door prizes, information tables, and displays of antique cars. The Office for the Aging’s Nutrition Program prepared a lunch of hamburgers, hotdogs, and summer salads.
Musical entertainment was provided by Timeline (formerly Blue Country), which many seniors enjoyed while relaxing by the river. A public transit bus was available for tours. Mr. Ding- a-Ling’s truck was also there selling tasty treats.
The Madrid Marine Corps League served as the event’s grill masters, and local local political leaders and volunteers assisted with serving the meal. Golf carts supplied by Mid State Golf Car Company were used to transport attendees from the parking lot to the activities.
Sylvia Despaw, the Office for the Aging staff, Senior Club members, the Town of Madrid, and many other volunteers helped make the picnic a success.
