LISBON – Sixteen local food pantries each received a check for $1,300 and ten boxes of food from the donations taken in by the 2019 Lights On the River, said organizers in a recent press release.
The event, that ran from Dec. 15–23 last year, was a success, organizers said.
Lights On The River is a non-profit organization in its ninth year of raising money for food pantries.
Every year in December, the Lisbon Campground is filled with lighted Christmas themed displays set up by businesses, families, and groups.
While entrance to the event is free, non-perishable food items and monetary donations are accepted with all proceeds divided among local food pantries.
The food pantries that benefitted this year include: Canton Church and Community
Canton Neighborhood Center, Gouverneur Neighborhood Center, Hammond Food Pantry, Heuvelton United Methodist Church Food Pantry, Lisbon Food Pantry, Massena Neighborhood Center, New Beginnings Clothing and Food Outreach, Madrid, Norwood-Norfolk-Raymondville Outreach, Norfolk-Raymondville Food Pantry, Ogdensburg Neighborhood Center, Potsdam Neighborhood Center, Richville Food Pantry, The Salvation Army, St. John’s Church Food Pantry and Waddington Family Resource Center.
Macks and Drake Hollis won the $25 Walmart gift card.
Organizers said that in Dec. 2019, the tenth year of the event, they hope to expand the display to fill the site.
New participants are welcome, and Christmas themed displays can be set up at no charge.
