It remains to be seen if the voters will endorse John Byrne in his race to unseat Theresa Democratic Assembly Member Addie Russell on Election Day, but the Cape Vincent Republican's campaign has persuaded several organizations and individuals to voice their support for him as the vote nears.

Byrne will also appear in the Independence Party line on the Nov. 4 ballot.

The Assembly district in question, the 116th, includes all St. Lawrence County towns along the St. Lawrence River (Massena, Ogdensburg, Louisville, Waddington, Lisbon, Oswegatchie, Morristown, and Hammond) plus the towns of Canton, Potsdam, Rossie, Macomb, and DePeyster, and northern Jefferson County not including Watertown.

In recent days, Byrne has collected the endorsement of other members of the Assembly and Senate that represent St. Lawrence County. He has been endorsed by local politicians Assemblyman Kenneth Blankenbush (R,C,I-Black River), who represents the 117th District, including towns in the southwest of St. Lawrence County; and Sen. Betty Little (R-Queensbury), whose 45th New York Senate District includes the St. Lawrence County towns of Parishville, Lawrence, Clare, Colton, Hopkinton and Piercefield; and by Assemblywoman Janet Duprey (R,I-Peru) of the 115th New York Assembly District, which includes Brasher, Hopkinton, Lawrence, and Piercefield.

He has also been endorsed by the Empire State Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), and by New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms Political Action Committee.
