St. Lawrence County non-profits can tap $100 million pool for building projects, technology upgrades

Local non-profits in St. Lawrence County can apply for funding through a new state program that aims to help organizations improve the quality of services offered to individuals and families.

Sen. Patty Ritchie, R-Heuvelton, is encouraging nonprofits to take advantage of the $100 million program.

Funding is now available through the Nonprofit Infrastructure Capital Investment Program, which will allow nonprofits to move forward with building upgrades and other construction projects, become more energy efficient and update technology.

“Countless people across central and northern New York rely on our local nonprofits for vital services that enhance their quality of life,” Ritchie said.

Ritchie represents the western half of St. Lawrence County including Ogdensburg, Canton and Gouverneur.

“I was proud to advocate for funding in recent state budgets to support these organizations and the work they do to improve our communities. I am hopeful they will take advantage of this opportunity to access the support needed to make major upgrades that will help improve the services they provide.”

Included in the 2015-16 state budget was $50 million in funding for the program. In response to an overwhelming interest from nonprofits, the Senate Majority advocated for an additional $50 million for the initiative in the most recent state budget, bringing total funding available to $100 million.

Nonprofit organizations looking to apply for funds can do so through the NYS Grants Gateway. Applications are due on September 29, 2016 and award announcements are expected on Nov. 1.
