Wetherell, Hart pace Saints at EISA Championships

St. Lawrence University graduate student Zach Wetherell and junior Leah Hart led the Saints' Nordic ski teams in the freestyle events at the 2011 EISA Championships hosted by Bates College on Saturday.

Both the men's and women's teams finished in sixth place in their respective races.  Wetherell was the top Saint finisher in 11th place overall with a time of 30:01.8.  The Hinsdale, MA native was awarded 30.0 points for his finish, while junior Adam Terko and senior Steven Vargo capped the men's team's scoring.  Vargo was 26th overall in the 10K Freestyle, while Vargo was 36th.

Sophomore Connor Hunt (44th), rookie Eric Lustgarten (52nd) and senior Kyle Marvinney (59th) also competed for the Scarlet and Brown.

Hart was the top St. Lawrence finisher in the women's 5K Free in 13th place overall.  The Meredith, NH native raced in 16:16.8 to log 28.0 points for her team.  Sophomore Caroline Carpenter (34th) and first-year student Amanda Moreland (37th) capped the team's scoring.

Sophomore Kelsey Nichols (44th), senior Sophie Allen (52nd) and first-year Amy Cymerman (57th) rounded out the team's line-up on Saturday.

Dartmouth College won the men's 10K Free, while the Big Green's Eric Packer took the individual title.  On the women's side, the University of Vermont earned the win led by Caitlin Patterson's victory.

Both the St. Lawrence men's and women's Nordic teams will complete the 2011 carnival season tomorrow on Day Two of the EISA Championships when the squads race in the classic events.
